HAWLEY, PA – June 2007 – The Lodge at Woodloch, a luxury destination spa in the lake region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, announces the new “Spiritual Drum Circle” workshop lead by Emmy award winning musician and composer, Richard Reiter. Reiter’s summer series of two-day workshops will have The Lodge reverberating with rhythm as guests beat, bang and thump their way through Richter’s teachings and share exuberance and closeness with fellow guests.

Reiter will conduct three hour-long instructional sessions over the span of two days, teaching guests personal freedom and awareness through the art of drumming. The workshop includes a morning and afternoon session on the first day, and a morning session on the second day. He will also host an evening drumming experience at The Lodge at Woodloch’s spectacular outdoor Fire Pit, encouraging guests to get in touch with their own natural sense of rhythm.

Reiter is a nationally recognized jazz musician who studied African drumming with master drummer Sidy Sankhare in Dakar, Senegal. He is delighted to visit The Lodge at Woodloch to impart his knowledge to guests and observes, “When communicating with words, only one person speaks at a time. But when drumming, everyone can communicate at the same time by listening carefully and responding sensitively. This can generate a joyous feeling of unity and power.” Reiter will bring drums and percussion instruments for each guest to use and emphasizes that this workshop does not focus on complicated drumming patterns and that it is not necessary to have had any musical training. 

The Spiritual Drum Circle workshop is offered to all guests staying at The Lodge at Woodloch during the following dates: Wed-Thurs, June 27-28; Sat-Sun, Aug 4-5; and Sat-Sun, Sept 1-2 and is offered complimentary as part of the regular programming.
