Astronomy: An Invitation to Wonder
Astronomy is more than the study of stars. Learning about the night sky is a look at our cultural heritage - the myths and stories of our ancestors, lore concerning planting and navigation, and an inspiration for philosophy and religion. Astronomy is more than the study of the stars… it is an invitation to wonder!
Join Jim McKeegan in an exploration of astronomy – from the timeless mythology of the constellations to the modern science of the stars. Jim is an astronomy educator, long-time stargazer, and host of the Radio Catskill Cosmic Calendar, a weekly almanac of astronomy on NPR affiliate public radio station WJFF, 90.5 FM, in Jeffersonville, NY. During an indoor presentation, experience the night sky through beautiful cosmic imagery – pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope and other professional observatories, followed by, weather permitting, outdoor star gazing with a telescope for direct appreciation of the season’s best planets, star clusters, and galaxies.
