Mother Earth Weekend - April 18th-20th

In recognition of Earth Day and Arbor Day join our team of experts as we show Mother Nature our appreciation. The Lodge at Woodloch believes that Nature Nurtures, but on this weekend we will be nurturing nature for a change. During Mother Earth Weekend, guests will have an opportunity to participate in various Earth-Friendly activities.


Friday, April 18th
Mother Earth Cooking Demo*

Join our Chefs for a demonstration of selections from our gourmet spa cuisine menus - with ingredients direct from our gardens. You will learn new cooking techniques, healthy and surprising ingredient alternatives and elegant and fun presentations.

Herbs Demystified
5:00pm
Join Master Herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore for an engaging discussion on the wonderful world of herbs. Gain insight on the medicinal and edible uses for herbs, discover the dynamics of food and environmental allergies or discover natural and easy remedies for common ailments. Nathaniel specializes in wild edible and medicinal plants, Herbology, and whole food dietetics.

Medicine from Trees

From the salicylic acid that was originally discovered in Willow, to the many Native American and folk remedies from trees like Sassafras and Oak… Many medicines come from these majestic members of the forest.  Deepen your appreciation of trees by learning about Native American uses of our local species along with learning about others from around the world like Camphor and Cinnamon.

Nocturnal Walk*
7:30pm
Quiet night air, stars so bright, a night song being played just for you. Join the outdoor adventure staff for a walk around our lush 150 acre property to explore the world that awaits us as the night unfolds. We will look for the many nocturnal wildlife that only come out at night. With the diversity of the lake, forest, and farmland right here on our property, you are sure to encounter various sounds and sights of the night.

Decorating with Nature*
8:30pm
Gain techniques to create your own decorations made from items found in nature, either for display outside of your home or for bringing the outdoors inside.  A collection of items to inspire your own creativity, easily found in nature or grocery stores, will be available to make a wreath or arrangement to take with you.

Saturday, April 19th
Signs of Spring Plant Walk*

Join our Master Herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore for a casual walk on our beautiful grounds in search of emerging signs of spring through early sightings of many common plants native to our area.  Use this opportunity to learn about local history, including how our local fields and forests have been influenced by Native Americans, European settlement, and more recent developments, as well as our resident flora and fauna.

Geocaching*
10:30am
Explore The Lodge grounds on a high-tech hunt for hidden "treasure" with help from our Outdoor Adventure Guides and a GPS. Usually off the beaten path and always a surprise, Geocaching is a fun way to learn about navigation and overland travel. Please wear sturdy shoes as many of the geocaches are hidden off trail.

Hoop House Tour*

Join our Garden Team for a short stroll over to our Farm-to-Table Garden to experience our Hoop House. Guests will learn about growing techniques and ways to implement these growing strategies at home. We’ll take a look at the hearty greens we’ve harvested throughout the winter months. This produce is sent over to our TREE Restaurant to be used in many of our delicious, gourmet-spa cuisine dishes.

Bog Talk*

Surrounding our glacial lake is an ecosystem teeming with life. Join Master Herbalist, Nathaniel Whitmore, as he breaks down and identifies the different forms of life the bog has to offer. Edibles, medicinals, and endangered species of plants are just a small part of the bog that is ever changing and fascinating.

Special Offering: Terrariums* ($)

Like a miniature greenhouse, these micro-worlds create their own natural water cycle to produce their own moisture. With little effort, your terrarium will provide months and possibly years of fresh green enjoyment. Your terrarium is yours to keep and enjoy. Cost is $10 per person.

Animal Adaptation with the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center

Animals have amazing abilities we rarely consider.  During this program guests will get to see, up close, some of the birds, mammals and reptiles that live in the forests and fields right around The Lodge at Woodloch. Learn how they avoid predators, get food, defend themselves and sense their world with their amazing adaptations!  Be sure to bring a camera.

Earth-Friendly Garden Practices*

Join our Master Gardener as she shares earth-friendly garden practices with an emphasis on methods that are least disruptive to the environment.   Covering topics like companion planting, cultural practices and beneficial insects in the garden, Alison will help you plan for the upcoming garden season with an approach that considers supporting the eco-system surrounding you.

Featured Fitness Class: Mother Earth Beauty Qigong
Friday, April 18th at 4:00pm
This original Qigong form, co-created by Kazzrie Jaxen and the rivers, trees and stones of the Delaware River Valley, forges an alchemical connection between humanity and (remove the word the) earth.  Practicing gentle flowing movements with intention, we merge our bodies with the earth's body, aligning our three centers, to give homage to Earth Beauty.
