SPRING CLEAN YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE
Let’s face it, the Winter can be harsh to our skin. Despite the fact that those of us in the northeast experienced a relatively mild winter, the skin will still need some extra TLC to bring it back that natural glow. The extreme changes in temperature (cold outside, warm dry heat inside) takes an extra toll. Not to mention what many people tend to put into their bodies during the Winter months that take a toll on the skin as well (comfort food, that extra glass of wine and holiday sweets).
Since we always take our cues from the nature that surrounds us at The Lodge at Woodloch, we thought this was the perfect time to highlight a “Spring Awakening” for your skin. During this season of renewal, we should take advantage of this transitional time to spruce up our regimen.
A few great tips to awaken your routine are:
- Drink water.
- Exfoliate and scrub. Remove those dead skin cells caused by the dry heat to give you a natural glow. Not only will it brighten you up, it will help “awaken” your blood flow to regenerate skin cells and remove some of that Winter dullness.
- Swap out your products. Opt for a non-oil based cleanser and a lighter moisturizer. Your skin needs different approaches to combat the constant changes of you’re surrounding conditions.
- Make SPF a basic necessity in your beauty routine.
Treatments Manager Amanda Clabaugh shared one of her favorite DIY Spa Recipes using the ever-versatile banana. Bananas contain vitamin A to help restore lost moisture and help repair dull and damaged skin. Large amounts of vitamin C and antioxidants also help give skin a natural glow.
Calming Banana Scrub/Mask
1 banana, peeled and mashed
1 tablespoon dried lavender flowers, ground in food processor
1 tablespoon powdered milk
1 tablespoon oil of choice
1 tablespoon oats
1 tablespoon honey
Blend all ingredients and gently apply to cleansed skin. The oats act as a mild exfoliant to help remove dead skin cells. Leave on for 10-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Bonus Tip - bananas are great for beauty sleep, which truly helps improve your skin from the inside out. Bananas contain large amounts of tryptophan and serotonin which help make the hormone melatonin which aids in sleep. Eating a banana before going to sleep will help prepare your body for a restful night.
