THERAPEUTIC LATTES & SEASONAL HEALTH

Winter is a time for restoration and reflection. In Chinese medicine, the Winter is associated with the water element (pooling, tranquility, and flow). Within the body, the water element is connected to circulation, perspiration, tears, bladder, and most importantly during this time, the kidney.
 
The kidney is a revered organ because it can spark energy for the entire body. It is the root energy for all organs. The key to kidney health is warmth and hydration during the Winter months.
 
The body naturally craves warming foods in the Winter, which coincidentally helps with kidney health. Warming foods include hearty soups, whole grains, roasted nuts, and hot tea. To really boost kidney health, try adding beans (black beans, kidney beans, or red adzuki beans) along with seaweed and steamed greens to your diet. Fish and sea salt (instead of table salt) are a great way to connect with the water element and boost your healthy connection to the season.
 
With the chilly Winter weather in the Northeast, hunkering down for a relaxing and restorative weekend is just what the body needs. For those relaxing at home, we thought the perfect way to enjoy a cozy weekend would be with a Therapeutic Latte. Some of the ingredients that we use in our Therapeutic Lattes are matcha, turmeric, ginger, honey, Reishi, and chamomile, which are great ingredients for kidney health.
 
To make a therapuetic latte at home, here is are a few of our favorite recipes:

Matcha Latte
1/2 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon (more if you like your tea stronger) matcha tea powder
1 cup milk (your choice- we love coconut milk, almond milk and oat milk)
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon coconut sugar (or sweetener of choice)
Ground cinnamon for garnish (optional)
 
Golden Milk Latte
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 teaspoon wildflower honey (or pure maple syrup for vegan option)
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (can sub 1-2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger, to taste)
5" cinnamon stick (or 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee
