Movember - November 16th - 18th

This November, we are honored to participate in the national movement to improve health and wellness in men, Movember.  Movember is a movement that began back in 2003 with a couple guys growing mustaches for a cause.  15 years and over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sisters later, the movement is stronger than ever.  It is a current reality that men still die 6 years before women on average.    We fully support the Movember Foundation’s desire to:

  • Improve the quality of life (providing tools and resources for prostate and testicular cancer)
  • Prevent Suicide
  • Help men take action (healthcare)

To help join the MOvement, we are creating a MO-ment Weekend dedicated to this purpose.  We have gathered health and wellness professionals to help educate, take action and pamper.

The First 1000 Days with Patricia Ladis, PT, CBBA
8:30pm
Join Patricia Ladis as we explore The First 1000 Days. The First 1000 Days of Wellness program is Dr. Pecorelli’s translation of a holistic approach that stands as a leading concept for the prevention of chronic disease, and optimization of human development. The time ranging from PRE-conception through two years of age represents the period in development with the maximum plasticity and therefore the best time to put into place key interventions for the rest of the lifespan. This talk will dive into the critical phase just prior to conception, and the role that the male gametes play in setting conditions for the management of inherited disease risk and prevention. Men, women, and grandparents of all ages are welcome! Come and hear how you can positively impact the health of the NEXT TWO GENERATIONS!

I Don’t Like Beer- A Tasting with author and beer expert John Holl*
11:00am
For many, an introduction to beer came through a pale lager, best served iced cold, or an import that had a faint aroma of skunk. That coupled with a general impression that beer can be "lower class" than, say, wine, has some people claiming that they don't like beer. This presentation explores the flavors of beer, and how to properly taste it. When taking into account more than just taste, but color, aroma, mouthfeel, and a bit of history, many people are surprised when they suddenly find out that they do like beer, just not the stuff that started them in the wrong direction. *Please sign-up for this activity with our Spa Concierge.

Best Practice Shaving and Grooming Routines
with Mike Bruggeman, founder and CEO of Organic Male OM4

3:00pm
Men, don’t pretend you don’t care about your looks and how you are aging?  See how the biological differences in male and female skin call for innovative male-specific grooming products.  Spend a few minutes to learn how your skin ages and how you can look your best at any age and slow the clock.  We will also explore best practice shaving and how to address common shaving-related skin concerns.

Beer Pairing Dinner ($)*
6:00pm
Beer expert and author John Holl joins forces with The Lodge’s own Executive Chef Josh Tomson for a beer-pairing dinner experience you won’t soon forget. Cost is $25 per person. *Please sign-up for this activity with our Hostess.

“Let’s Talk” – Taking an Alternate Route to Preventing Prostate Cancer
with Dr. Geo Espinosa

8:30pm
Join Dr. Geo in a discussion about Prostate Cancer, the most common cancer diagnosis among men.  Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screening has saved many lives from this second deadliest cancer in the last three decades, but it has also been a controversial biomarker causing the over treatment of non-aggressive cancers.  Let’s talk about how to lower the risk of prostate cancer through becoming more proactive in your well-being and incorporating intensive lifestyle practices.  Dr. Geo’s discussion will touch on how to use the PSA test to avoid overtreatment of the prostate and how to implement a lifestyle that significantly reduces the risk of prostate cancer and promotes longevity.
