Galen Glen Winery
October 31st - November 1st
Galen Troxell’s legacy is one of innovation, tradition, and deep-rooted stewardship. A sixth-generation farmer and mechanical engineer, Galen pioneered modern viticulture in the eastern U.S., notably planting the first commercial Grüner Veltliner vineyard east of the Rockies in 2003. His blend of mechanical ingenuity and sustainable farming transformed Galen Glen into a model of excellence. Alongside him, Sarah Troxell transitioned from chemist to acclaimed winemaker, known for her precision and artistry. Their daughter Erin, now leading the family farm, brings global expertise and academic rigor, ensuring the Troxell legacy continues to thrive through a powerful blend of heritage and forward-thinking vision.

Z is for Zweigelt* ($)

8:30pm
Join Erin for a deep dive into one of Galen Glen’s most intriguing varieties, Zweigelt, expressed in three distinct styles. In this engaging tasting, you’ll explore the newly released vintage of our: Traditional Method Rosé Sparkling Zweigelt, Dry Red Zweigelt, and Zweigelt Red Blend. We’ll compare these wines to Austrian counterparts to highlight stylistic traditions, terroir influences, and how Galen Glen’s vineyard expresses this grape in Pennsylvania. Erin will share insights into Zweigelt’s unique role at the winery, from vineyard decisions to winemaking techniques for each style. Whether you’re a long-time Zweigelt fan or discovering it for the first time, this class offers a one-of-a-kind chance to taste how this niche grape can take many forms and why we think it deserves more time in the spotlight. Cost is $25 per person. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to participate.

Saturday, November 1st

Join Erin for a Master Class dedicated to low-alcohol wines – wines that bring vibrant acidity, delicate flavors, and refreshing drinkability. She will guide the class through a comparative tasting featuring Galen Glen wines alongside classic examples of low-alcohol styles, including Kabinett Riesling, Vinho Verde, and Prosecco. Through this tasting, Erin will discuss the factors that contribute to lower alcohol levels – from grape variety and climate to winemaking techniques like arrested fermentation and carbonation. Whether you’re looking for a lighter option or simply curious about these lively, nuanced wines, this class is the perfect way to explore the beauty of balance in the bottle. Cost is $25 per person. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to participate.
